In an effort to encourage gun safety, Bexar Country Sheriff’s office is working with the University Health System to give out free gun locks. If you’re looking to secure your guns, you can pick up your lock at Mission Ridge Range and Academy this Wednesday (1/08/20.) The giveaway will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This is an especially important effort, in order to ensure the people of San Antonio are able to safely store their guns. If you’re a parent with guns in the home, gun safety is a necessity. The statistics of unintentional injuries and deaths from accidental gun discharges with children are chilling. According to Stanford Children’s Health, 50% of these discharges involving children happen in their own homes. 40% of these incidents happen at a friends or relatives home.
Over 200 gun injuries and deaths involved children last year. Researchers say the best way to decrease your chances of an accident happening in your home, is to take simple gun safety steps.
