Beef Being Recalled by Tolleson Due to Salmonella Contamination
An outstanding 5.1 million pounds of raw beef products are being recalled by Tolleson, an Arizona-based company, due to a potential contamination with salmonella bacteria. This company had already recalled 6.9 million pounds of raw beef in October.
The recalled beef is believed to be contaminated with Salmonella Newport, which causes a type of food poisoning called salmonellosis. This manifests in symptoms after 12 to 72 hours of contact. While most people recover from salmonellosis within 4 to 7 days, it may be more dangerous for vulnerable people such as children, the elderly, and immunocompromised people.
As of November 15th, of this year, 246 people in 25 states have been diagnosed with salmonellosis connected to these products. Fifty-nine of which have been hospitalized, and fortunately no one has died.
These products are sold at 100 different stores including Sam’s Club, and Walmart stores. These products were packaged between September 7, 2016 and July 26, 2018. To the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) urges people to check their freezers for these products.
