Last week, almost 4 years after a Wichita woman died, a jury reached a $6 million verdict. The medical malpractice case was caused when Lindsey Perez died after giving birth at Wesley Hospital. Mrs. Perez was taken to the emergency room by her husband where she had a c-section and gave birth to their son. So after the procedure, Mrs. Perez expressed concern about her ability to breathe. The issues were persisting long after giving birth. After telling her RN, the nurse reportedly did not tell a doctor till 20 minutes later. By then, it was too late. Mrs. Perez was chocking on her own fluids. Soon doctors and nurses rushed in and escorted her family out. Moments later, Lindsey Perez was pronounced dead. She had suffered from a pulmonary edema.

According to the families attorney, Lindsey’s death was preventable. A spokesperson for the hospital says that there was no wrongdoing on their part. A jury disagreed.
